What was your favourite part of the experience participating in the mentorship program?

One of my favourite parts of the mentorship program was the opportunity to gain a global perspective on the daily issues that are impacting women in business. No matter which part of the world we live in or what field of work we are participating in, there are always certain challenges and joys that follow each of us around the world. The mentorship allowed me to explore these different aspects.

What is one key takeaway that you have learned from the mentorship program?

For many mentors, English is a common language that is used but the vocabulary and the way specific business terms are used may not always be translated and understood by them in the same way. Therefore, be ready to elaborate on your ideas, and then explain this to your mentee using different words or expressions. As mentors, there is an onus on us to support the understanding of the mentees!

If you were to recommend this mentorship program to someone, what advice would you give as a mentor or as a mentee?

The program is rewarding but be ready to work. Connecting across different time zones, working through business issues, sharing joys, and exploring different cultures and technology takes more than just a schedule and a willingness to try. There will be times where you are both equally exhilarated and frustrated and both of these factors will help you move your abilities to a new level.
